Our restoration department is second to none. We take great pride in our work and end result is a finished product better than when new. By completely stripping all fabric re-gluing frames and re-tying spring work, this assures your furniture will be like new again. When refinishing we put 8-10 coats of lacquer to make sure your furniture will look and last the way it should.

Antique Restoration
Restoration is process of either restoring an antique to a like-new condition (or what might be perceived by a viewer as like-new), or "conservation"- the practice of preserving an antique against further deterioration. Restoration can be as simple as light cleaning to remove disfiguring dirt or grime, or it may include near complete rebuilding or replacement. Often done in preparation for sale or by an collector upon acquiring a new piece, the main goal of restoration is to "restore" the original appearance or functionality of a piece.

Upholstering
The life of a piece of upholstered furniture begins with its frame which, although it can not be seen, has significant bearing on the quality of the final product. In a well constructed piece of furniture, the frame can outlast any upholstery on an actively used piece by years. We will be happy to assist you in selecting from our wide array of available fabrics and re-upholster your favorite piece with care and attention to detail.

Refinishing
Refinishing in the world of wooden furniture means fixing or redoing the finishing paint, varnish or other top coating of a piece which has been damaged by weather or time. From resanding to new paint and new varnish, the artisan or restorer is traditionally aiming for an improved or restored and renewed finish.

Furniture Repair
In addition to the more specialized and specific services above, Markay Furniture can also perform more basic repairs on your more prized pieces of furniture.
